I am so excited to share my Eco-Friendly reusable face scrubby pattern!  I have been thinking of making some for my pre-teen daughter for quite some time now.  I need to get her to start washing her face more, the acne bug is slowly starting to visit and I think if she had some cute scrubbies it would make it fun.  Also, I try to use washable, re-usable things whenever I can…. I tend to veer away from the “once and done” cleaning supplies…. I use washcloths for my dishes, an actual mop and bucket, etc.

Anyhoo….  It just so happened that a few weeks ago, a friend of mine contacted me to make some scrubbies for her.  She is a consultant for a direct sales makeup company and wanted to place a bulk order to use as giveaways to her clients.  Super cute idea, right???  And, just what I needed to get my scrubbie mojo in gear.

As most people do, I hopped on Pinterest to see what patterns are out there.  Why re-invent the wheel…  I tried a few patterns and did like them, they were well written and got the job done.  I had a different vision in my mind though.  I wanted to come up with a design that was fun, inspired by the sun and flowers, could appeal to pre-teens who REALLY need to start taking care of their skin, but also be made in a pure white or linen color to appeal to adults or those who prefer the “spa” look.

After playing around with stitches for a while, my version, the Dreamcatcher Face Scrubby, was born.

It works up VERY quickly, there are only 3 rounds!  Here’s how to do it:

Yarn:  100% cotton

Hook: I 5.5mm or H 5.0mm (I prefer to use the 5.5mm hook but I crochet on the tighter side)

Stitches/abbreviations used:

yo- yarn over

ch: chain

sts- stitches

slst- slip stitch

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

Pst- Puff Stitch: (yarn over, draw up a loop) 5x.  11 loops on hook.  Yarn over, pull through all loops.  You will want to make your loops loose so they are easier to pull through

3dccl- 3 double crochet cluster: (yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, 2 loops remain on hook.  Yarn over, pull up a loop, pull through 2 loops, 3 loops remain on hook. Yarn over, pull up a loop, pull through 2 loops, 4 loops remain on hook.  Yarn over, pull through all 4 loops.

Pattern:

Round 1: Start with Magic Circle, Ch 2 loosely.  (Pst; ch1), repeat (-) 4 more times- 5 Psts in magic circle. Tighten magic circle and join with slst to top of ch2.

Round 2: (Basically you are placing 2- 3dccl stitches in between each Pst, and 1- 3dccl on top of each Pst.)  Ch 3, 3dccl (Ch3 counts as first dc of 3dccl) in space right below join -in between Psts from previous rounds-, Ch 1.  3dccl in same space, Ch 1.  [3dccl in next st.  It will be directly on top of Pst from previous round.  Ch 1. (3dccl in next space -in between Psts from previous round- Ch 1, 3dccl in same space, Ch 1)].  Repeat from [-] around, join with slst to 1^st 3dccl.  You will have 15 3dccl stitches

Round 3: (Basically you are putting sc, hdc, sc in each space between 3dccl sts.)  Slst into space between first set of 3dccl stitches.  Ch 1, (sc, hdc, sc) in same space.  [(sc, hdc, sc) in next space between 3dccl sts].  Repeat [-] around.  15 (sc, hdc, sc) clusters.  Join to 1^st sc, fasten off, weave in ends.

Note:  I like to use the invisible join with this, then weave the ending tail of the yarn down to the center of the scrubby where my beginning tail is, make a square knot to secure, then weave the two ends in around the center puff stitches. See photo tutorial below:

1. Cut yarn, pull your loop up.  Thread yarn with needle, weave under 2 stitches where you would have joined.
2. Pull through, weave yarn back through center of last completed stitch.
3. Weave yarn down scrubby to center, to meet up with beginning tail.
4. Knot end tail with beginning tail using square knot, then weave ends in through center of the scrubby.

If you tie your ends together just right, the knot will slip under the puff stitches becoming basically unnoticeable.
