My Crochet Story

I have always been the crafty girl.  I was the one who was making friendship bracelets, collecting leaves to do a project with, or talking my mom into how we just HAD to go to the craft store so we could try “this” new thing.  Most of the time my mom was all about whatever idea I had.  She was a crafter as well, so when we did get to the store we would end up leaving with wayyyy more project ingredients than we went in for.  I loved many things as a child including jewelry making, painting, the famous “melty bead” projects, and really just anything I could get my hands on that would allow me to express creativity.  Not much has changed since then, but one craft in particular has stolen my heart, crochet.

I first learned how to crochet when I was around 11 years old, on a family vacation.  I do not remember making anything of substance…. there were many free-form shapes, a little sleeve that went over my thumb;  I just really enjoyed seeing what I could come up.  This was before internet days, and there was only so much that I could figure out on my own…. my mom has a basic knowledge of crochet, but I have to admit I got a little bored with it.

Fast forward to when I was getting ready to go to college.  I decided to crochet again.  I went back to the good ol’ craft store and picked up a book called 123 Crochet, a hook, and some Lionbrand Homespun yarn.  That book was just what I needed to get me back into crochet mode, and I quickly picked everything back up (with mom’s help),  learned a few new stitches, and had big ambitions to make a twin sized blanket in single crochet for my dorm room.  Needless to say, it did not get finished in time.  I would get a skein here and there, hook it up, and leave the project for a while.  It ended up taking me about 5 years to actually finish, haha!  The next step in my crochet journey is when my daughter was around 3 years old.  I wanted to make a blanket for her.  Let’s just say I grabbed my hook, got some yarn, found Pinterest, and have been hookin’ ever since.

Now, I am a working mom of 3 children, 1 teen girl and 2 boys.  I am so grateful to have my hubby who supports all of my crazy crafting ideas.  I absolutely love designing and writing crochet patterns.  I still do the occasional non-crochet craft here and there, and with mom life comes all of the trials and tribulations of running a household; cooking, cleaning, you know… the fun stuff… (lol).  Between makeup and monster trucks I still try to find time everyday to whip up a few stitches, and set my creating soul at ease.
